When she is your first choice

In case of strong flow

Do you know what it feels like to literally leak and have to change your tampons every hour on the first day of your period? Then the menstrual disc is just right for you. Because it can hold up to 6 tampons, even more than conventional cups. No more sleepless nights or surprises in the morning.

For stomach cramps

Many women report that traditional tampons make their stomach pain worse during their period. Tampons and conventional cups often feel hard and uncomfortable and the vagina can also become cramped. Things are different with the menstrual disc: it is soft, easy to shape, holds without negative pressure and adapts perfectly to your vagina.

For vaginal dryness

Conventional tampons not only absorb blood, but also natural moisture and thus dry out your vagina. The menstrual disc, on the other hand, is made of 100% medical silicone, is hypoallergenic, does not absorb liquid and leaves your vaginal flora in balance.

On weaker days

Removing a tampon that is still half dry is not a great feeling at all. If your period gets lighter towards the end, the menstrual disc is the best choice to avoid drying out your vagina.

At spiral

Since the menstrual disc does not have a vacuum, it can also be used with a spiral.

During sports and swimming

Conventional tampons sometimes interfere with sports or bathing. The movement causes your tampon to become noticeable from time to time and the retrieval thread is often too long. In addition, tampons can absorb water when swimming and are therefore no longer tight. The menstrual disc, on the other hand, fits so well that you completely forget that you are even wearing it. In addition, it stays completely sealed even during the most sporty movements and in the water.

During sex

Sex during your period is now also possible with disc. The menstrual disc is so flexible that you and your partner don't feel anything about it. It sits comfortably in the vaginal vault, the widest part of your vagina, even during penetration. So you don't have to worry about blood stains on fresh bed linen.

For pain patients

Pain patients (including endometriosis) often cannot use normal tampons or cups with negative pressure due to the severe pain. The supple menstrual disc provides a remedy here and offers greater comfort.

For cup intolerance

Does the negative pressure of conventional menstrual cups bother you? Does this possibly make your period pain worse? Or do you find it difficult to remove? Then the menstrual disc is your solution! It works without any negative pressure, still stays tight for up to 12 hours and is so soft that you never feel it. In addition, with a little practice, emptying and removing it is much easier than with a cup with negative pressure.

On a tight budget

On average, a woman spends CHF 200-300 per year on disposable menstrual products such as tampons and pads. A menstrual disc, on the other hand, you buy once and lasts up to five years. During this time you save over CHF 1000, you don't produce any waste and you don't always have to think about stocking up on tampons.

How pure?

1. Boil the disc for 5 minutes. The easiest way to do this is to place the disc in a cup, pour boiling water over it and let it stand for about 5 minutes.

2. Wash your hands.

3. Hold the disc between your thumb and forefinger and push it together at the double edge.

4. Introduce toward cervix

5. Now push the front edge up behind the pubic bone so that the disc sits securely.

Wiederverwendbare Menstruationsdisk hält bis zu 12 Stunden

How out?

1. To empty the disc during the day, detach the front edge from the pubic bone with your index finger (it's best to do this from above), pull the disc a small part out of your vagina and allow it to drain without removing it completely .

2. Remove the disc every 12 hours completely by pulling it out along the double edge with your index finger (from above). Empty them and wash them briefly with water.

3. Boil the disc again for 5 minutes at the end of the period.

  • For some women, the disk empties itself in the toilet. A really great special feature of the menstrual disc!

This happens because the pelvic floor muscles that you use when you go to the toilet also press on the edge of the menstrual disc so that it empties.

  • Maybe it happens automatically for you, but maybe you also have to consciously press a little or tense your pelvic floor muscles.

But don't worry, the menstrual disc doesn't suddenly empty automatically while you're doing yoga, swimming or just sitting in squat down. This really only happens in the toilet position with a tense pelvic floor.

FAQ

Which size is right for me?

Decide mainly based on your menstrual volume: If you have a light to medium flow, the small size S-M is sufficient (holds up to 4 tampons). If you have a rather heavy flow on the first two days, we recommend the larger Disk M-L (holds up to 6 tampons). For the large disc, you should check beforehand whether you can fully insert your index finger until you reach the cervix. If so, the large disk has enough space. However, if your uterus is rather deep, we recommend the small disc.

Which size should I choose after a vaginal birth?

In contrast to the menstrual cup, with the disc you don't necessarily have to switch to the larger size after a vaginal birth. Here too, look mainly at the strength of your menstruation. The uterus often lowers slightly after a birth. If this is the case for you and you cannot insert a whole index finger until you reach the cervix, we recommend the smaller disk S-M.

Can I use the disc with the spiral?

Yes, since the disc works without vacuum or negative pressure, you can also use it with a spiral.

How long can I use the menstrual disc?

You can wear the disc for a maximum of 12 hours. Every 12 hours you should pull the disk out completely, empty it completely and rinse it briefly with water. In between, you can empty the disc when you go to the toilet without removing it completely.

You should treat yourself to a new disc about every five years for hygiene reasons. You should replace it beforehand if it has cracks or holes or is generally no longer in good condition.

How do I empty the disc?

When you go to the toilet, you can empty the menstrual disc in between. You don't have to take the disk out completely: hook your index finger on the front edge (it's best to do it from above), pull the disk a little out of your vagina so that it can empty. It helps to alternately tense and release the pelvic floor. This will completely empty the disk. Then don't forget to push the double edge back up behind the pubic bone.

Every 12 hours you should pull the disk out completely, empty it completely into the toilet and briefly wash it out with water in the sink. Alternatively, this is best done while squatting in the shower.

If the disk has slipped a little deeper into the vagina, for example after sex, you can squat with your legs apart and relax around it easier to remove. The menstrual disc cannot disappear into your vagina, so you can always get it out. If you still can't get it out yourself, please go to your gynecologist.

How do I get the disk out after sex?

Exactly the same as always! Normally you can pull out the disc and empty it as normal. If you can't grab the edge of the disc at first, don't panic. The disc cannot be lost and you will definitely get it out again. Be patient, the disc will automatically move down over time as it fills up. Squat down in the shower to shorten the vaginal canal and press a little. This makes it easier for you to grab the front edge of the disc and pull it out.

Why doesn't automatic emptying work for me (so-called auto-dumping, self-emptying)?

Perhaps you are one of those women for whom the disc fits exactly and is very tight between the pubic bone and the cervix, so that automatic emptying is not possible.

No problem, you can still simply empty the disc, without removing it completely: To do this, detach the front edge from the pubic bone with your finger (preferably from above) and pull it out just a little.

How do I clean the menstrual disc?

Empty the disc and rinse it under warm water. You can also use some hand soap to wash off any remaining blood.

At the end of your period, boil the disc for 5 minutes. The easiest way to do this is to put it in a cup, pour boiling water over it and let it stand for about 5 minutes.

I like to use an old toothbrush to thoroughly clean the double edge of the disc before boiling clean.

What is the disc made of?

The menstrual disc is hypoallergenic and consists of 100% medical quality silicone from Germany. This is free of BPA, plasticizers, phthalates or other chemicals and is ISO certified as a medical product. This means it does not negatively affect your vaginal flora and its PH value.

Where is the menstrual disc produced?

Our menstrual disc is made of 100% medical quality silicone from Germany and is produced by our socially responsible partner in China. We were in contact with various producers within and outside of Europe for two years and examined and tested different disc models and materials. We found by far the best disc quality (as thin as possible) from our current production partner in China. For the material, we chose a German silicone manufacturer of the highest medical quality. This is how we managed to combine the best material and the best manufacturing process. We pack the disc in our factory and design all the packaging ourselves.

We would love it to produce everything in Switzerland. However, at the moment this is still so expensive that we could only offer the disc at a considerably higher price. With PERIOD we would like to ensure that innovative menstrual products are made available to as many women as possible, which is why the production price plays a decisive role.

What is the best way to store the menstrual disc?

When the disc is completely dry, store it in the original packaging or another bag in a place protected from light and out of the reach of children.

What are the advantages over a menstrual cup (cup)?

In contrast to a cup, the menstrual disc works without negative pressure. This makes carrying and emptying easier. It can also reduce period pain.

The disc in size M-L also has an even larger capacity than most cups. This also makes it the perfect solution for women who have a heavy flow.

With a little practice, the menstrual disc can be automatically emptied on the toilet. And even without 'auto-dumping', emptying is easier than with a cup with negative pressure, because the disk does not have to be completely removed every time.

Does the disc have a contraceptive effect?

No, the menstrual disc has no contraceptive effect and does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases.

What is TSS?

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a very rare but dangerous and even life-threatening condition that can occur when using tampons and other period products. Symptoms may begin suddenly and resemble those of the flu: fever of 39°C or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fainting and/or a sunburn-like rash. If you notice any of the above symptoms, remove your menstrual disc immediately and seek medical attention. Be sure to let them know that you have your period and have used a menstrual disc. TSS can be life-threatening and must therefore be recognized and treated early.
